How each section is scored

The raw score is calculated by adding the number of questions you answered correctly,
minus a fraction of the number answered incorrectly. You will not be penalized for skipped
questions and no points are subtracted for incorrect Student Produced Response math
questions (grid-ins) on the SAT Reasoning Test..

Each question answered correctly receives 1 point
Each question answered incorrectly for a multiple-choice question will result in a deduction of 1/4th of a point.
Each question answered incorrectly for a student-produced response will not result in any point deduction.
Each unanswered question does not receive or lose any points.

The raw scores for the multiple-choice writing section are converted to scaled scores that are reported on a 20-80 scale.
Every Writing Test contains a 25-minute essay. The Essay Subscore is reported on a 2-12 scale. (Essays that are not written
on the essay assignment, or which are considered illegible after several attempts at reading, receive a score of 0.)
Each essay is independently scored 1 to 6 by two readers. These readers’ scores are combined to produce the 2-12 scale.
If the two readers’ scores differ by more than one point, a third reader will score the essay.
The multiple choice writing section counts for approximately 70% and the essay counts for approximately 30% of your total
raw score, which is used to calculate your 200-to-800 score.

How do I find my SAT score?

The fastest ways to find out your scores are by checking online or calling on the phone. Otherwise,
they will be mailed to you about a week after they are available on the web or phone.

1) Score retrieval online

To retrieve your score online you’ll need to register at www.collegeboard.com
The SAT online score report is available free to every student that takes the SAT.
Online you will also find:

A printable copy of your actual essay response
Breakdown and other information about your score, such as the number of questions that you answered right,
wrong, or omitted, the total number of questions, your raw score, and the percentile for college-bound seniors
based on the test you took.

2) Score by phone

Scores by Phone are released according to the same schedule as scores by web.
To get your score by telephone, call (866) 756-7346 (Domestic), (212) 713-7789 (International), on or after the date

   (if available).
Your birth date.

Your official printed score report will be mailed to you, your high school, and to colleges and scholarship programs
designated on your Registration Form about three weeks after the test.

Please acknowledge that some scores may take longer to report.

How do I send my score to additional colleges?

If you want to send the score reports to additional colleges and scholarship programs that you did not include when you
registered for the SAT, you can do so by clicking the View and Send Scores button for $9 each.
Note that a user name and password are required. Rush reporting is availiable for an additional $26 which will be sent in
two business days after your request is received.

Additional Information:

You can only send completed and scored test reports. These will appear next to test dates on your SAT Status page.
After submitting requests, it generally takes about three weeks to send the score reports.
All available scores will be sent, including those from previous tests. You cannot send only your latest or highest
SAT Reasoning Test scores, or separate scores for critical reading or math or writing, or only SAT Reasoning Test or
   only SAT Subject Tests scores.
Most colleges and universities require official score reports sent from the College Board.
