Selecting appropriate books

Today’s high standard of education requires a great deal of reading and writing.
There is no easy way to become a better reader, and no gimmick to improve reading comprehension. It’s just a matter of
practice. But reading does not have to be boring. SOS has compiled a list of ideal books for students of all ages, ranging from
mysteries to old-fashion classics. Each book has been hand-picked by our qualified teachers. Besides, reading is fun. How else
can you visit Middle America in your pajamas?

The variety is seemingly endless

SOS Book Club provides works that are appropriate for each respective age group.
For example, we wouldn’t recommend Jane Eyre to a third grader.
We respect each student’s unique reading and writing style and sense of creativity.
Most of us, as adults, have forgotten how to be creative. Creativity, however, is a gift found in all
children. Their grammar and spelling might be a little bit off, but they can blow us away with their
imagination and voice. We want to foster these talents in each and every student, which is why we
offer a library of books that will engage their imaginations.

Each essay topic is the result of collective collaboration

Reading and understanding what is being read are two different things. We provide students with questions and essay topics
that have withstood the test and fire of collaboration to ensure that students comprehend what they are reading.
This is an essential and often overlooked step in the reading and writing process. After all, if all we did was give the student
a book to read, it would just be called reading ? not an effective way to ensure that the student understands the material.
To finalize the learning process, we include essays at the end of each question packet to unleash the student’s creativity.

Well organized scores

Well written essays will receive a score of “good” as rated by our teachers.
Our cychers (cyber-teachers) have a grading rubric that scales each essay according to quality.
Each section or paragraph is graded on an individual basis.
The separate scores are tallied and a final composite score is given,
ensuring that each grade is fairly deserved.

Detailed correction

Our cychers devote a great amount of effort to grading each essay. Furthermore, the process of grading the essay doesn’t
just end with the student receiving a score ? our cychers leave comments on the essays, just as an English professor would,
designating each student’s tendencies with appropriate feedback. We believe that a grade is just a grade, but learning
something from that A or B is so much more important. In the end, don’t we all just want to improve?
